Saab Key Programming
Saab cars built since 1994 use an immobilizer system that is based on key codes. A new transponder is required for inclusion of an additional key, as well as special programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
This can be expensive. This is why you should always keep a spare key in your possession.
Transponder key
The transponder key is a key with an electronic chip that sends a signal back to the car when it is inserted into ignition. The car checks to see whether the signal matches the one on the key. If the signals are in sync then the car will be able to open and start. This is a great method to deter car theft and keep your car secure from thieves.
Transponder keys are an increasingly popular feature in cars, but it is important to know that they aren't as secure as classic metal keys. The metal component of a traditional key is easily cut and copied, whereas a transponder has an electronic chip that protects it. This chip contains a unique code programmed into the car's computer to identify it.
The car will recognize the Saab keyfob and allow it to turn on. But, it's only able to do this if the fob has an unmodified chip that has been programmed to match. The car will not start when the key isn't programmed to match.
It is crucial to have an extra Saab key. This is especially important if you reside in a rural location that has many car thieves. You can get a new key for your Saab by visiting the dealership without paying expensive prices. You can have a replacement key created on the spot for less than half of the cost you would spend at a dealership.
Key for Wired

Saab cars usually come with two keys when new. If you only have one, it's an ideal idea to purchase an additional key fob as quickly as you can, because if you lose it, the car will require the replacement of a CIM unit and the locking cylinders will need to be replaced. This can be costly especially if purchasing a used vehicle.
The next step is to wire the wires for the column and row to the microcontroller. This is the most challenging part of the project and requires a significant amount of soldering. There's no standard way to do this, but it's important to plan out the way you'll route and solder the columns and rows. There are 22 microcontroller wires and pins to connect to this keyboard. saab replacement key has five rows and 17 columns.
After the rows and column are joined then it's time to connect the key switches. To do this you must place an inverter over each pin on the key switch and then solder it. This will protect the pins of the key switch from current and prevent them from being shorted. A diode allows current to only flow in one direction. It is equipped with a visible indicator, a black band, that shows the direction in which the current will flow.
Some of the tools you can find at auto parts stores- such as the Autel MaxiIM IM608 Pro and IM508 -- may help customers in the shop, or even DIY users in some cases programme replacement keys and recover lost immobilizer data Sanabria says. The tools connect to the OBD port and guide the user through the procedure, making it simpler than replacing the computer inside the vehicle.
Jump-starting the battery
A lot of people keep a set of jumper cables in their trunk for emergency situations, but jumping a battery on newer vehicles might not be the best idea. These vehicles are equipped with a number of electronic devices and computers that communicate with each other. A voltage spike when a battery is hooked up to another one could damage the components and render your car unable to drive.
Start the vehicle that is working and allow it to run for around two minutes before connecting the cables to the non-working one. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the battery that's good. (It will read "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface under the disabled car's hood--the engine block is an excellent choice. The black cable is not to be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could create sparks that could ignite the gasoline that is in the engine compartment.
Once the cables are connected, start the vehicle that is disabled and let it run for approximately five minutes before disconnecting them in reverse order. Remember that the battery on your Saab 9-3 is charged during your drive, which means it could take a while to get the battery back to normal. You should consider purchasing a second key fob, as soon as possible. The replacement of the one that works requires the installation and programming of a brand new computer chip.
Replacement case
Saab owners usually have only one car key, and if that is lost, they will be charged. The reason is that it's expensive to add a new key, and that involves replacing the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE on older models, and programming. It is best to have a second key in case of theft or any other catastrophe the best solution is to purchase a second key as quickly as you can. Don't buy a secondhand key, even the case that it's "new." Claimed-new keys from sellers selling aftermarket keys won't perform and are almost certain to fail in the most critical moment.
The dealer will charge you the most expensive dollar if you have only one working key. However, we can reset and reprogram the computer's EEPROM to prepare it to accept the new key, without replacing the whole system. This can save you a great deal of money. It's less expensive than wait until you lose the only key.
